Behind the name

Strength and Dignity is the stateside LLC that owns Become, a freedom business located in Kathmandu, Nepal.

As Become takes on the manufacturing of Trucker Caps for custom and wholesale orders, Strength and Dignity will be the social enterprise through which they are marketed, sold, and exported.

The name Strength and Dignity comes from the well-known passage in Proverbs 31. When I was a young believer, God sent an older woman to teach and encourage me in His ways as a wife, mother, and woman. She spoke truth in love, she sacrificed her time and resources for my family, she prayed with and for me, she encouraged me when I felt my world spinning out of control, and she loved me unconditionally regardless of the pits I fell into or the messiness of my marriage, children, and relationships. She led me in the Word by her speech and her walk and I’ve watched her navigate her own hardships with strength and dignity. She studied Proverbs 31 with me and spoke and prayed it over me. I wish I had it here in Nepal (it’s tucked away safely in the states), but one year she gifted me with a beautiful hand-embroidered hanging of Proverbs 31 and the words have become a guiding path in my life. I’m not sure that anyone other than her has ever compared me to a Proverbs 31 woman, but it’s the kind of woman that she is, and the kind of woman I strive to be.

Just as Joan has done for me, I look for ways to encourage and empower other woman to walk in their purpose and identity with strength and dignity. Not only are we in the business of selling hats for a cause, but this company is primarily about empowering women to thrive. The hats we sell provide tangible opportunities for ethical and healing centered employment for women at risk of exploitation or who have experienced human trafficking.
