We wern’t trying for a girl…But I like having one

OK, everyone keeps congratulating us on “finally getting our girl”. We really weren’t “trying” to get a girl… we just wanted another baby. I will admit that I wanted a daughter, and did pray for one… But I did grow up in a house of four children, my aunt and uncle have four and my grandma had four too; I always wanted (at least) four of my own. I (we) would have been just as excited about another boy… in fact I was getting quite used to the idea of it because I was certain that I was carrying another boy. God though, he blessed and surprised us with a daughter.

Having a baby girl has been quite different from our boys…
Changing her diaper was actually kind of awkward at first. I suppose had we had three daughters and then a boy, that would have felt awkward too. Shopping has been really fun (at least for me)! Pink is so much cuter than blue (I’m just sayin). Using nick-names like sweet-pea and pumpkin isn’t so “unmanly” for hubby any more. Dilemmas such as ear-piercing have come up (things we never realized we didn’t see eye-to-eye on). I can now relate to the pressure hubby feels about being a good role model to his sons (oh my gosh, this little girl will be learning from
me what it means to be a mother and wife). The boys brought a Care Bear to the hospital for their sister… I am so excited about playing games and with toys that I can relate to!

Different for sure, but wonderful in every way!

Having one son and two daughters, I can tell you this: I didn’t know whether my children were girls or boys before they were born, and I didn’t want to know. I though that knowing would take some of the “fun” out of labor! After all, you do deserve a surprise after all that hard work!I was just so thrilled to finally be a mom! And now, my son is 27, the girls 25 and 23, and I’m still thrilled to be their mom! Each one is unique and individual, yet they are very close to one another. I pray they will always remain so.As for role models–I can’t think of a better role model for a mom than you. You’ll do fine, I know you will. And, yes, little girl’s clothes are very adorable, aren’t they? When my youngest was born, the nurse (believe it or not, the same nurse was on duty for all 3 births and the same midwife), she handed her to me and said, “Here’s another lovely flower to add to your bouquet.” I’ll always remember that. It still hasn’t really hit me yet that I have a girl- even the diaper changes haven’t really phased me and I haven’t gone shopping yet… but can’t wait!As for the ear piercing, I got mine pierced when I was five and asked to have them done. We plan to do the same- we’ll let her decide! But I think it’s definitely a personal choice thing.Steph

I always said that if I had a girl now, it would be like having a “first” child again! So, is it?
