We didn’t leave Cedar Rapids until about 9:30 PM last night, so didn’t arrive here at Timber Wolf until about 7:30 AM this morning. We stopped at a gas station around 2 AM and the boys woke up while we were stopped. They did not go back to sleep until we got here. Needless to say, they took LONG naps this afternoon.
Tonight in the dining hall (luckily it was after everyone had finished eating) Nevan thought that the red lever was rather appealing and yes… he pulled it. And the fire alarm went off. That thing was LOUD. Scared him like nothin else, I guarantee he’ll never do that again.
I love bringing Brice to these meetings. He always finds someone to buddy up with. This time it’s an Area Director from Chicago. He even sat with his new friend during dinner and earlier before we got started they threw a football around outside for a bit. I love how family friendly and oriented Young Life is. And I love when other adults poor into my kids.
Our division’s VP shared some scripture with us today. He read from Judges 7:1-4 and talked about how numbers are not always effective, but that the quality of our team is more important in this ministry. I really needed to hear that and plan to spend some time reading through Judges 6 and 7 and pondering it some more. I think that instead of feeling defeated and like a failure, I need to be thankful for the team we have in Cedar Rapids and realize that God can do great things through us no matter how few we are.
Before we left yesterday we actually had three new leaders over. From now until our jump start in January I really want to focus on training the leaders we have and covering our ministry in prayer. We are planning to meet weekly from now until then as a leadership team. Please keep Cedar Rapids Young Life in your prayers.
