Prince of peace

Life is chaotic.

For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace // Isaiah 9:6

I love the insight into Jesus’s character in this verse.

Prince of Peace, What does this mean? Do you experience Jesus’s peace in your life? This is the question I’ve been faced with in the last few weeks. For us to answer this question, we need to know what Jesus’s peace looks like.

Then you will experience Gods peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus // Philippians 4:7

His peace exceeds anything we can understand, I believe this means, we can experience His peace in times of struggle and suffering. To the world it looks crazy to stand in peace when your facing a difficult situation, but to God it makes sense! God knows his plans for us, he knows the outcome, and we just need to let go and trust.

His peace guards our hearts and minds, our mind is at rest and our heart is protected from the enemy while we sit in his peace. How then do we obtain this peace? Live in Christ Jesus, when we know who is inside of us, we know who we are. The reason Jesus was filled with peace is he knew who’s he was. We are children of God and therefore have access to his peace.

I had this amazing encounter with the Lord in worship at church on Sunday. A ugly cry with mascara down your face kind of encounter. God whispered, your safe here. Let go of the tension in your body, relax your muscles, your safe. Am I really safe to feel God’s peace? Can I really relax and just…………trust him? As I stood in his presence filled with his love for me, I let go. I became overwhelmed with his peace, tears running down my face, my nose running, I realized I was  safe in his arms.

Jesus is not the prince of fear and tension, he’s the prince of peace, and this peace comes as a by product of having him live in us. We don’t need to do anything to get it, but just rest in his arms. Life is chaotic, yes, but Jesus’s peace in us is beyond our understanding, so live in the chaos with a calmness and grace that only God can give. And the moment you feel the tension rising in your body, stop. Go back in to his peace, meditate on his word, and rest. Rest is how we re-align ourselves with God’s peace. Make it a daily practice of sitting in his presence, resting in his arms, feeling his peace. Soon you will feel like you can face any storm head on. Fighting your battles from a place of rest, is the secret weapon of the Christian lifestyle.
