Conversation with a survivor

Meet Sheryll Roberts; Sheryll is a survivor of incest, founder of Life Of Hope After Abuse, and passionate advocate for victims of sexual assault.

This is her story of hope.

What Happened?

I am a Survivor of incest. My life changed at the tender age of 4 years old when a cousin molested me and I knew at that age it wasn’t right but I was too afraid to say anything. I thought that was the worst two nights of my life and then at the age of 8 years old my brother raped me and continued until I was 15 years old.

How has these events impacted your life?

My innocence and voice were stolen. I could have told someone but he threatened me and I was too afraid; instead I suffered in silence for years.  I suffered with low self-esteem and I felt I was too damaged to love or to be loved.  I didn’t find the courage to tell someone until I was in my late 20’s and I am now 43.

How did you find hope?

It took a lot of love and support from friends and my relationship with God to get to a place where I was free to use my Voice to Speak Out and Heal.  Forgiveness came and now I am walking in Freedom and living on purpose.
